Volunteers in Police Service (ViPS) are civilian volunteers trained in support functions for the North Las Vegas Police Department. It's a fun, rewarding way to get involved, support the Police Department and help keep our community safe.

Citizens interested in participating in the ViPS Program must meet the following requirements:

• United States citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Lawfully able to work in the United States
• At least 18 years old
• Willing to volunteer 16 hours per month
• Successfully pass a background check   

The following volunteer opportunities are available:

Administration

Provide administrative support to different areas of the Police Department. General knowledge of basic office equipment and experience with Microsoft Office are helpful.

Event Volunteer

Assist with community engagement events such as National Night Out, Trunk or Treat, health fairs and other public outreach activities. 

Citizen’s Patrol

Assist officers in keeping the city safe by patrolling residential and business areas, reporting suspicious activities, and assisting with traffic accidents and road closures. Volunteers must successfully complete specialized training. Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current Nevada Driver License for two years. 

Chaplain

Assigned to the Peer Support Program and available 24/7/365 to provide confidential emotional, moral and spiritual support to Police Department personnel and their families. Chaplains provide support for crisis and critical incidents, promote officer well-being, visit staff that are injured and attend briefings. Chaplains also assist citizens in need and inmates detained at the Community Correctional Center. Must provide 20 hours of service monthly and attend annual training.
