This year's program featured a welcome from Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, remarks from Tyler D. Parry, associate professor of African American and African Diaspora Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a proclamation presentation and the ceremonial raising of the Juneteenth flag.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans. North Las Vegas was the first city in Nevada to issue a proclamation officially recognizing Juneteenth as a city holiday in 2021.
