The City of North Las Vegas celebrated its fourth annual Black History Month Community Celebration on Saturday. Hundreds of community members turned out for the event, which highlighted entrepreneurship, young people and community leadership.
"We're celebrating our cultural diversity, we're learning about those who paved the way before us, those who are with us now and our future leaders," said Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. "It's just about celebrating African American culture and having a great time."
The celebration featured approximately 50 small business vendors and musical performances by North Las Vegas students. The City also presented community-impact awards to individuals and organizations for their commitment to youth mentorship in North Las Vegas.
Among those recognized were Robert Strawder, founder of the Hip Hop Entrepreneurship Program and the Donna Street Community Center, and the organization T.U.L.I.P.S. (Teaching & Uniting Ladies to Inspire Positive Success).
