City of North Las Vegas Hosting Second Annual Arbor Day Festivities on Oct. 22

The City of North Las Vegas, named Tree City USA 2025, is stressing the importance of trees in our neighborhoods and education about the ongoing heat tolerance issues at its Arbor Day celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The event starts at 10 a.m. at City Hall’s Liberty Park. Nearly 75 local elementary school students will participate in tabletop activities with Get Outdoors Nevada and Nevada Plants, learning about such topics as native habitat, water education and “Leave No Tracks.”

“One of the key components of the North Las Vegas Strategic Plan is the health and well-being of our community, and we have taken many steps to improve the lives of our residents,” says North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “One of the most effective ways to address the ongoing heat tolerance issue in Southern Nevada is by planting trees and plants in our neighborhoods. This isn’t a one-day focus for the City as we have a robust tree planting and tree giveaway program to increase our tree canopy.”

“We are honored to partner with the City of North Las Vegas to celebrate Arbor Day by connecting students with hands-on learning that is rooted in nature,” says Shelly Kopinski, director of programs for Get Outdoors Nevada. “Many young Nevadans make their first connections with nature through enjoying the many benefits provided by trees in our local parks, trails and community spaces. We hope that outdoor community events like this Arbor Day Tree Planting will help us inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts who ensure our community keeps growing into a beautiful and vibrant place where all of us are connected to nature.”

“Like many generations before, we celebrate Arbor Day to recognize the important role trees play in our communities. I hope everyone in North Las Vegas will celebrate Arbor Day, and plant trees for the future residents of North Las Vegas,” says Nevada Plants Executive Director Lisa Ortega.

The City of North Las Vegas has committed to plant 5,000 trees and shrubs before 2032, with more than 600 being planted so far in 2025.
