The North Las Vegas Fire Department welcomed 11 new firefighters during a graduation ceremony held today for Fire Recruit Academy class 2025-1. Each recruit had their new badge pinned onto their uniform by a family member followed by a group swearing-in ceremony.
The recruits have successfully completed 20 weeks of rigorous training and will move into full-time positions as probationary firefighters at one of the city’s nine fire stations. The class is composed of ten men and one woman ranging in age from 19-31 years old. The class brings experience from the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army and a variety of public safety roles, including private EMS, ambulance operations and wildland firefighting, to their new careers.
“I am thrilled to welcome our next generation of firefighters to the North Las Vegas Fire family and commend their commitment to protecting and serving the city’s residents and businesses,” said Fire Chief Joseph Calhoun. “The knowledge and skills they have gained over the last 20 weeks are just the beginning, as they continue to hone their craft to best meet the needs of our community. Their hard work and passion for service are what drive us forward."
North Las Vegas firefighters are integral to the community’s health, safety and wellbeing. They are trained and equipped to respond to every imaginable situation, including medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, technical rescues and fires. The addition of these 11 new firefighters reflects the City’s goal for community safety, outlined in the Strategic Plan 2025-2030, to expand the fire department’s capabilities to protect and enhance our quality of life.
