City of North Las Vegas Celebrates CARE Veterans Treatment Court Graduation

The North Las Vegas Municipal Court today celebrated the graduation of eight veterans from the CARE Veterans Treatment Court, marking the program’s fifth graduating class. Since its launch, the court has seen 39 veterans complete the program.

CARE stands for Community Approach to Rehabilitation and Engagement. The Veterans Treatment Court supports veterans who are facing criminal charges related to issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury or substance use. The court provides a structured, treatment-based alternative to traditional sentencing with the goal of reducing recidivism, improving lives and strengthening public safety in North Las Vegas.

Each graduate completed a minimum of one year in the program, which included weekly meetings with a case manager, ongoing drug and alcohol testing, regular therapy and treatment sessions and participation in job training. Some graduates were also connected with housing and other services based on their individual needs.

The program is designed to promote rehabilitation over punishment. Each participant follows a personalized plan aimed at helping them heal, stabilize and successfully reintegrate into the community. Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown and Mayor Pro Tempore Scott Black delivered remarks at the ceremony. Councilmembers Isaac Barron and Ruth Garcia-Anderson, City leadership and community members were also on hand to show their support for the graduates and the mission of the court.
