North Las Vegas Police Accepting Applications for 2025 Citizens Academy Scheduled for Aug. 27-Nov. 5
Community invited to learn more about police department operations
North Las Vegas, Nev. - The North Las Vegas Police Department invites anyone who lives or works in the community to a behind-the-scenes look at how their police department operates during the 2025 Citizens Academy that runs from Aug. 27-Nov. 5. The 10-week academy will be held on consecutive Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. at the North Central Area Command police station, located at 1090 W. Deer Springs Way.
“The public’s perception of police officers is often shaped by what they see portrayed in television shows or the news, but the reality of law enforcement’s role in the community is vastly different,” said Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt. “The NLVPD Citizens Academy gives participants an informative and candid look at the inner workings of their police department and a chance to engage directly with police officers. It’s also great exposure for women and men considering a career in law enforcement.”
Each week the class will have demonstrations from different North Las Vegas Police Department divisions, including SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics), K9, Narcotics, Traffic, Crime Scene Investigations, Communications (Dispatch) and Patrol. Participants will also be able to ride along in a patrol car for one shift to see firsthand what officers experience every day and what they are trained to do under a variety of circumstances.
Applicants must live or work in the city of North Las Vegas, be at least 18 years old and have no felony, gross misdemeanor or misdemeanor convictions. All applicants must complete a background screening. Appropriate attire is business casual. No weapons, jeans, shorts, t-shirts or open-toed shoes are permitted.
