
The North Las Vegas City Council today approved five grants totaling $622,798 for the City’s Police Department to support special operations and fund programs to enhance the safety of the community.
“I would like to commend our grants director Leslie Nix and her team for always searching for appropriate grants to help support every department, and we’re grateful for these grants that strengthen our Police Department’s ability to keep our community safe,” said Scott Black, North Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem.
The newly approved grants are earmarked for the following programs:
- Continued funding for the Violence Suppression Unit to provide services to victims ($82,798)
- Funding for NLVPD Corrections Division Substance Abuse Program ($125,000)
- Special events and participation in the Joining Forces program highlighting traffic issues, including distracted driving, speeding and enforcing seat belt use ($300,000)
- Special events highlighting DUI enforcement ($100,000)
- Special events highlighting construction zone safety ($25,000)
“These grants reinforce the vital partnerships between local law enforcement and state safety agencies in promoting safety, security and resilience within our community,” said Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt. “Grant funding for public safety and supportive services for the vulnerable enables the North Las Vegas Police Department to continue and enhance its work to keep the community safe.”
The City of North Las Vegas applies annually for these competitive grants. The Police Department has been awarded more than $5.2 million in grants since last fiscal year for training, reintegration programs for offenders and community safety events.
