Voters in City of North Las Vegas Approve Key Public Safety and Community Funding
North Las Vegas, Nev. (June 12, 2024) – Questions 1 and 2 on the City of North Las Vegas June primary election ballot achieved 77 and 79 percent approval from City of North Las Vegas residents yesterday, June 11, 2024. These two measures, also recognized as Fund 268 and 287, will have a significant impact on the community by continuing to direct crucial funding to essential city services.
“I’m thrilled and relieved that our community sees the benefit in maintaining our public safety and quality of life funding,” said North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “The City of North Las Vegas is on an incredible trajectory and the redirection of these resources would have been a setback for our residents. I view this as a vote of confidence for the course our city has chosen.”
Question 1, which directs funding to Fund 268, is designed to support the North Las Vegas Fire Department and the Parks and Recreation Department. Over the past three decades, investments from this fund have driven substantial improvements and expansions, including partially funding the building of the first new fire station in over a decade; purchasing new fire and rescue trucks; purchasing lifesaving Technical Rescue Equipment to respond to events like flash floods and chemical containment events; upgrading the city’s public safety camera system; and rehabilitating existing parks, pools, recreational facilities, and community centers while continuing to develop new ones.
Question 2 focuses on bolstering public safety by directing funding to Fund 287. This fund supports the North Las Vegas Police Department, the Community Corrections Center, and Animal Protective Services. The approved funding will sustain approximately 65 positions across these essential services, covering personnel, necessary equipment and associated costs.
“Our community’s approval of Funds 268 and 287 is a testament to the shared vision and commitment of North Las Vegas residents to continue creating a safe and thriving community,” said Mayor Pro Tem Scott Black. “These funds are vital in ensuring our fire, police, and recreational services are equipped to meet the needs of our growing population, allowing North Las Vegas to continue flourishing as the fastest-growing city in Nevada. Thank you to all of the residents who voted to preserve this crucial funding.”
Residents are encouraged to stay engaged and participate in upcoming community discussions and initiatives. For more information on how to support local services and developments, visit www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com.
