Moriarity, a City employee since 2017, recognized for City’s innovative approach to the global pandemic
North Las Vegas, Nevada – The City of North Las Vegas announced today that Dennis Moriarity, IT Director, was recognized as the top tech leader in local government at the 11th annual Top Tech Awards presented by Vegas Inc. and Cox Business. The 2021 Top Tech Awards represent a diverse group of 12 honorees making a difference in nearly every sector—education, government, health care, hotel/gaming, nonprofit and more—through the power of technology.
“North Las Vegas’ commitment to innovation and solution-oriented thinking are moving the valley forward both during the pandemic and in its recovery,” North Las Vegas City Manager Ryann Juden said. “With Dennis’ contributions, the City has led the way in efficiently and economically serving our community.”
Through a common sense approach to responsible government and the City’s “fast and faster” approach of doing business at record speed, North Las Vegas is setting the standard for good governance and constituent services in Southern Nevada. Moriarity plays a key role in initiatives that make North Las Vegas a premier place to live and work in the desert Southwest.
Since being named Director of the City’s Information Technology Department in 2019, Moriarity has spearheaded the completion of projects that enhance the quality of life for the North Las Vegas community.
Under Moriarity’s leadership, when COVID hit, the City shifted to a fully online environment, allowing City Hall to effectively be open and accessible to customers 24/7. In early 2021 North Las Vegas announced it would be the first municipality in Nevada to run its own large-scale public vaccination program. Moriarity implemented a user-
friendly online registration system that allowed more than 25,000 people to sign up for vaccination appointments without crashing or slow performance.
Additionally, Moriarity and his team implemented a back-end telephone system that allowed City staff to operate a phone bank to confirm appointments and assist those who needed help with booking appointments. At Moriarity’s direction, the IT Department also quickly fashioned the technology needed to manage up to 2,500 people per day at City-run vaccination clinics at Canyon Springs High School and CSN North Las Vegas.
Moriarity first joined the City of North Las Vegas in 2017 serving as Senior Programmer Analyst before being promoted to Principal Programmer Analyst and then Director of Information Technology in 2019. Prior to joining the City, Moriarity worked in IT for BNY Mellon and Credit One Bank. Moriarity holds an AOS in Information Technology from Bryant and Stratton College.
