North Las Vegas City Manager Ryann Juden is the recipient of the 2021 Nevada Taxpayers Association Cashman Good Government Award.
The Cashman Good Government Award honors government entities and individuals who put workplace experience together with ingenuity to make citizen services work better, faster, and cheaper. Tim Cashman, the award's namesake, presented the award Wednesday evening during the North Las Vegas City Council meeting.
"If there is anything that this pandemic has taught us, it is that the future of government depends on our ability to think outside of the box. This is something that Ryann has embraced and implemented since day one," said Councilman Scott Black, who nominated Juden for the award. "In the last year alone, from the creation of the Southern Nevada Urban Micro Academy to address the learning loss and historic inequities our students face to the two-pronged approach he is leading to address the health and economic challenges of the pandemic to North Las Vegas residents and businesses, Ryann has been an exceptional leader in Southern Nevada response and recovery efforts, not to mention the long term diversification and growth of the entire region's economy over much of the last decade."
While the achievement of dollar savings is often emphasized in nominations, the innovative refinements of governmental operations and ingenious changes to processes and procedures that save staff and processing time and are equally worthy of recognition.
"The award honors our efforts to use taxpayer dollars efficiently and effectively, run more streamlined operations and find savings to reinvest back into the community. I couldn’t be prouder of our awesome team," Juden said. "Although my name is officially on the nomination, this recognition is truly the result of the work and dedication of everyone in the City helping our constituents navigate and survive the COVID-19 pandemic."
Representatives from the Nevada Taxpayers Association attended Wednesday's City Council meeting to recognize Juden.
"Ryann's leadership and the City of North Las Vegas' efforts embody the idea of good government," Nevada Taxpayers Association President Cindy Creighton said. "Even through the pandemic, Ryann and the City have enacted sound fiscal policies, fostered an efficient and user friendly environment for North Las Vegas residents and businesses, and led the way as a model of innovation for other local governments to follow."
