Water and Sewer Laterals
Did you know that as a homeowner, you are responsible for the water and sewer laterals on your property?
The homeowner’s responsibility of the water service lateral begins at the connection to the water meter inside the meter box. This is called the service connection. If a leak occurs at any point downstream of the water meter, it will need to be repaired immediately to avoid a high water bill.
Leaks in the service lateral can be difficult to locate. Nevada has very porous soil that may cause service leaks to take a long time to surface. Contact a certified plumber if you need assistance locating a leak.
The homeowner’s responsibility of the sewer service lateral ends at the connection to the main in the street. A sewer line blockage is the responsibility of the homeowner throughout the entire pipe until the connection to the City’s main. However, sewer line breakages are the responsibility of the homeowner until the point where the sewer line crosses the boundary of the property.
If a plumber has inspected your sewer line and determined a breakage or blockage is on the City side, video evidence may be submitted to the Field Services Environmental section for their review and action. Field Services can be emailed at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Service Line Warranties of America
The City has officially endorsed Service Line Warranties of America (SLWOFA) to offer optional insurance coverage for service lines located in the North Las Vegas Water System. Most basic homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover service laterals. To get more information on coverage with this BBB-accredited business, contact them directly at 1-866-922-9006 or by clicking here.
*Please note that SLWOFA is a separate entity from the City of North Las Vegas and participating in their service plan will not affect the price, availability or terms of service you have with us.
