Lawn Watering Restrictions

New Drought Restrictions were adopted effective October 1, 2003. Click here to view information related to the Drought Alert and Lawn Watering Restrictions.

Xeriscape Program

Thinking about replacing your lawn with xeriscape (desert landscape)? You may be eligible for a cash rebate. Homeowners and Commercial properties can earn a maximum of $300,000 ($1 per square foot, up to 50,000 square feet, then $0.50 per square foot for 50,001 to 550,000 square feet. ) for grass removed and replaced with a water-efficient landscape. For more information, contact the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Xeriscape Conversion Program at (702) 258-SAVE or visit their website at one of the above links.

Saving Water Means Saving Money

By reducing your watering time by two minutes per station, you may save 36,000 gallons of water a year – a possible savings of $5 per month!

Sprinkler Run-Off and Evaporation

There are many things you can do to prevent run-off from sprinklers. Instead of watering all at once, water for a few minutes every other hour. Check for broken sprinkler heads or nozzles. Turn the heads so they face the lawn, and not buildings or concrete. When replacing broken heads and nozzles, use the same make as your other heads and nozzles. Replace nozzles so that the grass isn’t blocking the spray, and allows the water to glide over the blades of grass. Refrain from watering during high wind or rainy days. To prevent your irrigation water from unnecessary evaporation, do not water between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. If your sprinklers are creating a misting effect, try shorter sprinkler nozzles.

RECOMMENDED SUMMER WATERING TIMES

Suggested watering time from April through October is between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., and from November through March is between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
