Jennifer Doody started at the City in July of 2001 as a Senior Engineer in the Development and Flood Control Division of the Public Works Department. In April of 2006, she was promoted to Manager of the Development and Flood Control Division, during the height of the great development boom in the City. Having the opportunity to lead this Division through the boom and bust of the North Las Vegas economy, Ms. Doody was able to hone her creative problem-solving and workflow streamlining skills. That experience prepared her to seamlessly transition into the key leadership roles of Deputy Director of Public Works in February 2014 and then Director of Public Works in August of 2015.
As the Director of Public Works, Jennifer manages the day-to-day operation and budget of a very diverse department that is responsible for permitting, building and maintaining all public assets. The department includes several divisions such as Development and Flood Control, Engineering and Construction Services, Infrastructure Maintenance, and Transportation Services., These divisions encompass work groups for Fleet, Parks Maintenance, Roadway Maintenance and Beautification, Building Maintenance, Traffic Operations, Land Development Permitting, Engineering Design, Survey, and Construction Management.
Under her leadership, the City has been recognized with five separate local projects of the year awards: North 5th Street 1C Bridge (2014 Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation Project of the Year); Las Vegas Wash Main Branch and Trail Improvements (2014 Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association Environmental Project of the Year); and Las Vegas Wash Trail Bridge at I-15 (2015 Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association Environmental Project of the Year); Centennial Parkway – Camino Eldorado to Lamb (2016 Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association Transportation Project of the Year); Colton Flood Control Improvements (2016 Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association Structures Project of the Year).
Ms. Doody serves on the Executive Advisory Committee of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada as well as the Technical Advisory Committee of the Regional Flood Control District. Jennifer was an officer of the American Public Works Association Nevada Chapter Southern Branch Board for more than six years and served in every leadership role including Southern Branch Chair. In 2014, she had the opportunity to be a part the Metro Las Vegas Leadership Las Vegas class for emerging community leaders.
Jennifer has a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Bradley University, and a Master's certificate in Public Administration from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada and a Certified Floodplain Manager. Jennifer started her engineering career in 1996 with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources where she worked in the Division of Water Resources, planning and designing flood control facilities for communities throughout the State of Illinois. After moving to the Las Vegas Valley, she worked in the private sector for three years completing drainage designs for both public and private sector projects.
Ms. Doody enjoys serving the City of North Las Vegas and extends that love of public service in her free time by volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care, helping to pack food boxes for distribution at Three Square Food Bank, and making dinners for residents at the Ronald McDonald house.
