Utiltities Operations Manager: Kirk Medina

The Utility Operations Division is responsible for the City of North Las Vegas water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system. The water distribution system consists of several pump stations, well sites, storage facilities and over 800 miles of water system piping. This infrastructure enables the division to provide water service to over 200,000 customers. The water system services all of incorporated North Las Vegas, as well as Sunrise Manor and sections of unincorporated Clark County. The sewer collection system services all of incorporated North Las Vegas and contains of over 450 miles of piping. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of storm-drains throughout the City.

The Operations Division is broken up into four sections:

Water Operations
This section is responsible for providing safe drinking water to our customers. It also verifies that there is plenty of water available to meet water demands and ensures that water pressures are good throughout our system. This section is also responsible for the effective maintenance of all production and storage facilities throughout our system.

Field Maintenance
This section is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all water distribution, and wastewater collection system piping. They ensure that fire hydrants are in sound working order, main breaks are repaired immediately, and service leaks are repaired in a timely manner. Crews regularly clean and inspect sewer mains to prevent blockages and minimize sewer overflows.

Operations Support
This section is responsible for water system security, backflow prevention, and employee safety for the Utility Department. It protects the quality of water within the distribution system from potential hazards that could come from commercial or industrial facilities. This section also develops programs and procedures for the department.

Pre-Treatment
This section is responsible for protecting the City's wastewater collection system and the stormwater collection system. It ensures that businesses within the City of North Las Vegas do not discharge chemicals or other contaminants into the sanitary sewer system. It also prevents sewer blockages by requiring the installation of grease interceptors where needed. This section is responsible for the application and enforcement associated with the federal Clean Water Act.
