The Transportation Services Core Team is comprised of the Roadway Maintenance, Traffic Operations, and Traffic Safety & Special Services Divisions within the Public Works Department.  Each division maintains a close partnership with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) www.nevadadot.com, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) www.rtcsouthernnevada.com, and the Freeway Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) www.nvfast.org .

The Roadway Maintenance division is responsible for street sweeping, channel and detention basin maintenance, street maintenance and construction, and citywide beautification.  Emergency service is also provided for oil and debris spills, downed trees and motor vehicle accidents.

The Traffic Operations division currently maintains 92 traffic signals and several miles of conduit and fiber optic cable.  Fifteen (15) new traffic signals will be added to the street network in FY 2006/07.  Additionally, the division is responsible for citywide traffic signs and markings, recreational park lighting, work zone safety, and street lighting. 

The Traffic Safety & Special Services division is responsible for providing motorists and pedestrians the safest path of travel in the City. A variety of functions performed include: work zone traffic control inspection and plan review, utility line locate inspections, franchising agreements, oversized truck permitting, citywide recycling efforts, new plan development inspections, and special event planning and barricading.
