Traffic Safety & Special Services is responsible for providing the traveling motorists and pedestrians the safest path of travel within the City of North Las Vegas. This division performs a variety of functions including:

  • Reviews/approves all Traffic Control Work Zone Plans involving the City.
  • Provides Line Locates for all street lighting, traffic signal and fiber optics.
  • Provide inspections, traffic related for new development / redevelopment.
  • Provide directions/planning related to traffic control for special events.
  • Provide support for Franchising and Partnership with other agencies.
  • Approval of over sized truck permitting.
  • Represents the City of North Las Vegas in the Recycling program efforts.
  • Provides inspections for all new Electrical Service Meters, traffic related.

Traffic Safety involvement with Franchising includes planning and negotiations contracts with utilities and business that provide services in our jurisdiction. This section works with Business Licensing to ensure that franchisees have submitted all appropriate forms and are paying their franchise fees. Traffic Safety reviews and approves all over-sized vehicle request including request received from the Nevada Department of Transportation. This program ensures that the routes all have been approved and will accept the size of vehicle requested to travel our roadways.

Oversized Truck Route Permit

Traffic Safety represents the City of North Las Vegas on a committee to enhance current recycling efforts. To date, our recycling program efforts are only 2 percent of all the southern valley residential curbside pick up. This committee will present options to City Council and Commissioners members' valley wide for approval.

Traffic Safety provides inspection for all electrical service meter points that are directly associated with street lighting, traffic signals. The inspections assure that all workmanship meets the most recent NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.

The division receives approximately:

  • 146 Traffic Control Work Zone Plans per month to review and make recommendations. Once approved staff documents plans for billing.

  • 1,465 line locates per month. Each location is required to make a field visit to mark out any Traffic Divisions Utilities, i.e. street lighting conduit runs, traffic signal conduit runs and fiber optics conduit.

  • 17 requests per month to provide inspection as it relates to pavement markings, street lighting and signs installation for all new development and re-development.
