November 10, 2004 marked the grand opening of the Washburn Community Police Facility. In an event filled with speeches and a moving raising of the flags, the building was dedicated to the community and to the men and women who have sworn to serve and protect those people.

Artwork created by the 2003 5th grade of Eva Wolfe Elementary School was unveiled on the front of the building to show "a child's perspective" of the work of a police officer.

Tours of the spacious and well fitted police facility were offered to all in attendance. Chief Mark S. Paresi was heard to say, "Don't look at this as being a standard of uniqueness, this is the standard the community should come to expect."

The building offers a large and comfortable community room for use by citizens. Also offered is a weight room for the officers, as well as a private briefing room, quite room, holding cells, and individual/group office spaces.

The building went into occupied use on November 20, 2004.
