Victim/Witness Program Purpose:

The Victim/Witness Program was created with the purpose of helping crime victims with the stress associated with being victimized. We provide a variety of services including crisis intervention; assistance with filing temporary protection orders and victim compensation claims, immigration resources relate to (VAWA visa), transportation to court hearings, shelters, and other community resources. VICTIM/WITNESS PROGRAM

VISION:

The North Las Vegas Victim/Witness Program Vision is to work in partnership with local agencies to increase awareness of services available to crime victims to ensure equal access to law enforcement and community resources.

MISSION:

The North Las Vegas Victim/Witness Program
Mission is to promote victim safety, protect the rights of crime victims
and ensure offender accountability.

GOALS:

1) Educate the community regarding victim’s rights
2) Provide education regarding service and resources available to crime victims
3) Provide compassionated support in a non-threatening environment
4) Maintain confidentiality of information

COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS

The following provides information on the Victim/Witness Unit annual events.

1) National Stalking Awareness Month- North Las Vegas Police Department (Lobby)
Date/Time: January, 2008
Activity: In observance of the 5th Annual National Stalking Awareness Month, valley-wide agencies will work in collaboration with the North Las Vegas Police Department to bring awareness to the community about this type of crime. The following information will be disseminated: Safety plan guidelines; stalking incident behavior log; NRS stalking laws; statistics on victimization; other stalking literature. Information will be available in English and Spanish.

2) Annual African-American Victim Service Forum - Victory Missionary Baptist Church,
Date: August, 2008
Activity: Agencies within the valley will provide information to the community on services and resources available to crime victims within their scope of work.

3) Annual Hispanic Victim Service Forum - St. Christopher Catholic Church
Date/Time: September, 2008
Activity: Providing information on domestic violence, immigration matters, and other resources.

4) National Domestic Violence Awareness Month - Nevada Health Centers, Inc.
Date/Time: Wednesday, October, 2008
Activity: The North Las Vegas Victim/Witness Unit, The North Las Vegas City Attorney's Office, and the Office of the District Attorney will be providing the general public with invaluable resources and information. Attendees will have an opportunity to request assistance, learn about victim services, and interact with agency representatives.
