Police Department - Benefits
ALL POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES
FOUR DAY WORK WEEK
All North Las Vegas Police employees work a four day work week, with three
days off. Most shift work occurs on a Sunday through Wednesday or a Wednesday
through Saturday schedule.
PAYDAYS
Employees are paid every two weeks, resulting in 26 paydays a year.
PAID HOLIDAY LEAVE
HOLIDAYS: In accordance with NRS 236.015, legal holidays are defined
as closing of state, county and city offices, courts, banks, savings and
loan associations, public schools and University of Nevada system. The
following thirteen (13) days are declared to be legal holidays for state,
county and city governmental offices:
- January 1 (New Years Day)
- Third Monday in January (Martin Luther King, Jr.s Birthday)
- Third Monday in February (Presidents Day)
- Last Monday in May (Memorial Day)
- July 4 (Independence Day)
- First Monday in September (Labor Day)
- Second Monday in October (Columbus Day)*(Only a City holiday per contract)
- Last Friday in October (Nevada Day)
- November 11 (Veterans Day)
- Fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving Day)
- Friday following the fourth Thursday in November (Family Day)
- December 25 (Christmas Day)
- Employee's birthday/floating day
Holidays are subject to conditions covered in Civil Service Rules &
Regulations, Confidential & Appointed Ordinances, Teamster, Police
and Fire labor agreements.
SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL
Per contract employees working swing shift receive 4% above their regular
salary and those working grave yard receive 6%.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION
All employees have the opportunity to participate in a diversified 457
plan. If you have an existing 457 deferred compensation plan account with
a prior employer, you may transfer that account into the plan offered
by the City at anytime.

RETIREMENT
All employees participate in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS)
of the State of Nevada. Payment of the employees portion of the contribution
is made by the City.

LIFE INSURANCE
$20,000 of life insurance is provided for all employees.
EAP (THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM)
Counseling is provided on a confidential basis for any personal or family
problems. The facility providing this service is dependent upon the appropriate
ordinance or union coverage.
BILINGUAL PROFICIENCY PAY
Employees conversant in Spanish, who have successfully completed a proficiency exam, will receive $750 annually.
TUITION ASSISTANCE
Employees may receive up to $3,000 annual reimbursement for working towards their Associates or Bachelors degree and up to $4,500 towards their Masters degree.
