Applicant Requirements
We welcome your interest in the City of North Las Vegas
Police Department. We wish all applicants success in selecting North Las
Vegas as the area in which to start/continue your law enforcement career.
All applicants are personally responsible for submitting a complete on-line application through the City's I-Recruitment application system. Please be sure to complete your Employment Application (Employment History, Education, etc) before submission. Resumes submitted without an Employment Application are considered incomplete and will not be accepted. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide copies of the applicable credentials/documents necessary. Verifiable documents are:
- Birth Certificate
- Valid and Current Driver's License
- High School Transcripts (Original) or G.E.D. Certificate
- Military (DD 214) if applicable
- Name change/Adoption documents if applicable
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age for a civilian position
and at least 21 years of age for a commissioned position at time of
submitting Application Inquiry Form.
Applicant must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. (General
Education Development) Certificate.
Applicant must have good moral character as evidenced through
proper references, general reputation and/or job history. No person will
be eligible for employment as a Police Officer who has been convicted
of any crime as a result of which the applicant is required to register
under NRS 207.090 or NRS 207.152, and/or misdemeanor crime of domestic
violence including use/attempted use of physical force.
Any offer of employment for a position within the North Las Vegas Police
Department is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment
medical examination conducted by an agency selected by the City and
paid for by the City, a thorough background investigation to ensure
meeting the hiring standards of the North Las Vegas Police Department,
and may require a pre-employment psychological profile evaluation
conducted by an agency selected and paid for by the City.
Commissioned and certain civilian positions within the North Las
Vegas Police Department are required to meet particular medical standards:
- Color Vision:
Must recognize 4/6 plates on Titmus® Color Vision Test.
- Visual Acuity:
Vision 20/20 in best eye and not worse than 20/30 in worse eye with/without
correction. If correction is necessary, uncorrected vision no worse
than 20/100 in each eye.
- Hearing:
Average hearing 1000/2000/3000 HZ must not exceed 25db. No single reading
to exceed 35db at 500/1000/2000/3000/4000 HZ. A hearing aid can be accepted
with a letter from an audiologist indicating proper fit and level of
hearing correction in both ears.
- Nevada Class C Driver's License:
Valid (at time of hire). Valid and current state driver's license is
required at time of filing and as identification throughout recruitment
and selection process.
All commissioned applicants are required to be non-tobacco users.
Further, a condition of employment requires all employees to successfully
complete National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.) Certification. Commissioned
officers must also successfully complete the applicable Peace Officers
Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certification and maintain proficiency
in all areas as required by Department standards and within Departmentally
established time periods.
Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen (N.A.C. 481.040):
Pursuant to the requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act
of 1986, all persons for hire shall at the time of enrollment in the payroll
system, be required to submit proper and acceptable documentation which:
(1) attests to their eligibility for employment in the United States,
and (2) establishes their identity. Failure to produce such documentation
at the time of hire shall result in disqualification from employment.
