Joseph K. Forti was appointed to the position of Chief of Police on March 26, 2008.

Prior to assuming the Chief role he was the Deputy Chief of  Detention and then Acting Chief of Police.  Chief Forti was also the Acting Chief of Police during the interim between Chief Joey E. Tillmon and Chief Mark S. Paresi.

Chief Forti brings to the position a wealth of information and background. He joined the ranks of the North Las Vegas Police Department in 1980 as an officer and has steadily gained experience within the Department to his current position. Some of the duties he has held include:

• Traffic Officer;
• Narcotic Officer;
  
• Department Liaison Officer, assigned to the Federal Drug Enforcement Task Force;
  
• Patrol Sergeant;
  
• Detective Bureau Sergeant;

• Patrol Lieutenant;
  
• Operations Captain;
  
• Services Captain;

Chief Forti received a criminal justice degree through Buffalo State College in Buffalo, New York. Additionally, in 1984 Chief Forti received the honor of being the Officer of the Year. In 1996 Forti graduated from the FBI National Academy. He currently is an instructor in many areas and holds a variety of memberships in key organizations.
