"A Life of Crime" Program
"A Life of Crime" is a special educational program designed
to reach out to teenagers aged 12-17 and their parents. The program is
conducted in the courtroom of the North Las Vegas Municipal Court. "A
Life of Crime" is a two-part program, lasting approximately 2½
hours in total.
All attendees must be appropriately dressed...there will be no spaghetti
straps, low-cut shirts, nor obscene/vulgar. Tee-shirt or clothing allowed. All
attendees, including parents, will be turned away at the door by the Marshals
if they are not appropriately dressed.
Part One
A lecture about street crime will be given by the Special Operations
Unit (S.W.A.T.) of the North Las Vegas Police Department. The lecture
will be open to questions and answers.
Part Two
Inmates from the North Las Vegas Detention Center , who have been involved
in criminal activity their entire lives, tell the stories of their lives
of crime and what it has done to their families, friends, and themselves.
This part of the program will also have a question and answer session.
This program is free of charge. It is held once a month on a Wednesday
evening, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The program is limited to 176 attendees,
and space may be reserved by appointment only. For the date of the next
program, and to make a reservation, please call the North Las Vegas Municipal
Court at (702) 633-1130, option 3. Please give your name, the total number
of persons attending, and a phone number. Reservations will be assigned
on a first come, first served basis. This is an ongoing program, so feel
free to make a reservation for the next session if the current session
has already been filled.
"A Life of Crime" is a collaborative effort between Judge
Warren VanLandschoot (North Las Vegas Municipal Court), Judge Stephen
Dahl (North Las Vegas Justice Court), the North Las Vegas Police Department & Detention
Center, and the U.S. Marshals Office. They and their agencies believe
this program is vitally important to parents and teenagers, whether
they have experienced criminal problems or not.
