Richard J. Cherchio was appointed by the City Council in July 2009 to fill the City Council Ward 4 seat vacated by Mayor Shari L. Buck.
He has been a resident of North Las Vegas since 2001. His civic involvement began in 2001 – shortly after moving to North Las Vegas from Florida – when he took the post of president of The Parks Homeowners Association. He currently is a Community Watch block captain and coordinator for the association. In 2006, he formed the nonprofit North Las Vegas Alliance of Homeowners Associations and Concerned Citizens, whose aim is to help members of the community better communicate with their local government.
Cherchio has been actively involved in the community as a member of the Northwest Police Command Citizens Community Council. He graduated from the North Las Vegas Police Department Citizens’ Police Academy and is a member of the Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni North. He is a member of Nevada Energy’s Demand Side Management Collaborative Sub-committee, which aims to help people weatherize their homes to lower their bills and save energy. He is chairman of the North Valley Democratic Club.
He is a retired U.S. Postal Service letter carrier and high school graduate. He enjoys spending time with his family and participating in various church activities. He is married to Gloria and has one daughter and three granddaughters.
