Stephanie Smith moved to Clark County in 1987 and has been a resident of North Las Vegas since 1991. She was elected to the City Council in 1997. Councilwoman Smith represents Ward 3.

Councilwoman Smith was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 1992 and served one term in the legislature. She also served as a member of the Governor’s Maternal and Child Health Board.

Councilwoman Smith is an alternate on the Southern Nevada District Board of Health. She is a member of the North Las Vegas Housing Authority Board and chair of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition. She is a member of the Clark County School District Local Oversight Panel. She serves as a member of the Civilian Military Council of Southern Nevada. She is a member and past president of the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities, which named her Public Official of the Year in 2007. She serves on the board of the Nevada Arts Advocates and on the advisory board to local public radio station KNPR.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Councilwoman Smith received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 in music and in July 2004 completed the Harvard University Program for Senior Executives at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Councilwoman Smith is a music educator in the Clark County School District. She is married to Jeffery Englehart.
