Library Facts
Established in 1993 by an act of the state legislature, the North Las Vegas Library District has its own tax base and receives a portion of the property tax. City Manager Gregory Rose is the Chief Administrative Officer and Kathy Pennell is the District Director. They, with guidance of the Board of Trustees, oversee the budget, management, and operations of the District. The Board of Trustees consists of seven members appointed by the City Council. Currently, Vernie Borgersen is the Chairman of the Board and Nona Whipple is the Vice- Chair. Board meetings are held bimonthly at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 2200 Civic Center.

Main Library
Located on Civic Center Drive, the District's Main Library was established
in 1966. In 1986, the facility was expanded to include a community room.
It was further renovated in 1994 so that it would comply with ADA (Americans
with Disabilities Act) requirements. The facility measures 18,000 square
feet and has a collection of 92,000 volumes. Both children's and adult
programming is offered at the branch. Please see our on-line calendar
of events for more information.
Aliante Library
Aliante Library, the Citys newest, state-of-the-art facility, opened
to the public in May 2006, at 2400 W. Deer Springs Way, just
east of Aliante Parkway. Aliante Library hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
on Fridays and Saturdays. The library is closed Sundays. The new library
is a one story, 15,900 square-foot building that houses a reference, circulation,
young adult and a children's section with an outside patio for story times.
The library offers public access computers, adult and children's programming
and meeting rooms in addition to books, videos, DVDs, magazines and newspapers.
Other features include a special programs room, multi-purpose room, meeting
rooms with kitchen, circulation and reference desks, book processing areas,
and staff offices. The exterior building design complements the surrounding
community, and the landscaping blends into the adjacent Nature Discovery
Park.
