City Public Works crews have begun construction of a one-mile underground, reinforced concrete box for flood control along Tropical Parkway, from N. Commerce Street to the Upper Las Vegas Wash.
Work on the project will require traffic control along Tropical Parkway, including lane closures, reduced speed limits and possible detours.
Tropical Parkway is designated a Safe-Route-To-School for Johnston Middle School. The City has coordinated work with school officials to provide and maintain sidewalks, detours and signs to ensure pedestrian safety around work areas near the school. Fencing and barricades will separate work areas from pedestrian walkways, and certified construction flaggers will be provided to help with access to the school.
This construction project is expected to be complete by October 2010, and is budgeted for about $6.8 million. The project is funded by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District.
