The City Council on Wednesday, Jan. 7, approved an inter-local agreement giving City Manager Gregory Rose responsibility for the day-to-day management of the North Las Vegas Housing Authority.
"My first objective is to make the housing authority solvent," Rose said. "I will review the structure of the organization and recommend changes. Some changes can be implemented immediately while others are longer term objectives.
"This morning, I assembled a team of staff from the City, the North Las Vegas and Las Vegas housing authorities and Housing & Urban Development," he said. "I have begun the transition process that will result in the creation and implementation of a strategic plan to ensure a smooth efficient operation of the North Las Vegas Housing Authority."
Don England, former Chief Executive Officer, announced his retirement in November. He has committed to remaining on board during the transition, working closely with Rose to ensure continuity of operations.
The North Las Vegas Housing Authority Board consists of five commissioners, City Councilman William Robinson is chairman, Shirley Hogan is vice-chairman and North Las Vegas Mayor Michael Montandon, Councilwoman Stephanie Smith and Councilman Robert Eliason are commissioners. The board meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. at the North Las Vegas Housing Authority, Rose Garden Recreation Hall, 1632 Yale Street.
